Privacy policy
This is a translation for convenience. The German version is the legally binding one.
1. In short
- The Happy Dose app has no account, no login and no server for your entries. It stores them locally and does not send them to us. On iPhone, they may be included in your device backup (see section 3).
- The app contains no ads, no analytics and no tracking software.
- The app connects to the internet only for Happy Dose+ purchases (handled through RevenueCat, see section 7). It sends your entries nowhere.
- This website sets no cookies and loads no fonts or scripts from third-party servers.

3. The app
What is stored. On your device: completed doses with date, your mood before and after a dose, whether it helped, your optional notes (“small good moment”), the happiness jar, your choices (Joy Path, categories), reminder times and settings. Mood entries can say something about your health. Happy Dose stores them locally and does not send them to us. We have no access to them and can neither read nor analyze them.
Legal basis. Because we do not receive this data, we do not process it within the meaning of the GDPR. Processing on your device serves to provide the app you installed (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Deleting. In the app under “More” → “Reset app” you delete all entries on that device. Uninstalling the app also removes the data from the device. We delete purchase data at RevenueCat on request to happydose@einfachsystem.de, unless a legal retention duty applies. Existing iPhone backups may still contain earlier entries; those backups are not deleted by these actions. We cannot restore your entries.
Device backup. On iPhone, app data may be included in an iCloud or computer backup, depending on your backup settings. Restoring that backup, including on a new iPhone, can also restore the Happy Dose entries it contains. Happy Dose does not provide its own sync service. On Android, operating-system backups and automatic device transfer are disabled for Happy Dose.
4. Notifications (reminders)
The daily reminders and the weekly review are local notifications triggered by your device itself. No server or push service is used. You can turn them off any time in the app or in system settings.
5. Widget
The widget shows the dose of the day and your week. It reads data only on your device and sends nothing.
6. App lock (Happy Dose+)
iPhone. The app lock uses Apple’s Screen Time feature (Family Controls). You choose apps in a picker provided by Apple. Happy Dose does not learn which apps they are; it only receives anonymous tokens that iOS handles itself.
Android. The app lock uses an accessibility service. It only reacts to which app comes to the foreground, in order to show the “Your Happy Dose first” screen for the apps you chose. It does not read content, input or passwords and passes nothing on. The service is active only if you turn it on yourself in system settings.
The app lock is optional and can be turned off at any time.
7. Purchases (Happy Dose+)
Happy Dose+ is a subscription taken out through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment data (card, account) goes to Apple or Google, not to us; their privacy policies apply.
RevenueCat. To manage subscriptions we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., San Francisco, USA). It verifies purchase receipts on a server and tells the app whether a subscription is active. On our behalf, RevenueCat processes:
- a randomly generated, anonymous app user ID (no name, no email address),
- purchase events: product bought, timestamps, subscription status, the store receipt,
- technical details such as app version, operating system, device type, language and the IP address at connection.
Your doses, moods and notes go neither to RevenueCat nor to us.
The legal basis is performance of the subscription contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). A data processing agreement with RevenueCat is in place. Because RevenueCat is based in the USA, data is transferred to a third country. For this transfer, RevenueCat’s data processing agreement provides for EU standard contractual clauses. The data is generally stored for as long as we use the service; earlier deletion takes place on request unless statutory retention duties apply. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
Without an internet connection the app keeps working; only buying and checking the subscription need it.
8. Rating request
After a good dose, the app occasionally asks for a rating. On iPhone, Apple shows its own dialog. On Android, the app opens the Google Play listing at your request. Apple’s or Google’s privacy policy applies there. The app only remembers locally when it last asked.
9. This website
Server log files. When you visit the website, our hosting provider processes technically necessary data such as IP address, date and time, page requested, browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver and secure the site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The website is run by an external hosting provider. Log files are not combined with other data and are kept only as long as needed for secure operation and error analysis; the exact period depends on the hosting provider’s configuration.
No cookies, no tracking. We use no cookies, no analytics services and no embedded third-party content. Fonts and images come from our own server.
Links. Links to the App Store and Google Play lead to pages of Apple or Google, whose privacy policies apply from the click.
10. Contacting us
If you write to us, we process your email address and message to answer it (Art. 6(1)(f) or (b) GDPR). We delete them once they are no longer needed and no retention duty applies.
11. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Write to happydose@einfachsystem.de. You can also complain to a data protection authority, the competent authority is the Brandenburg data protection authority (LDA Brandenburg), Stahnsdorfer Damm 77, 14532 Stahnsdorf, Germany, www.lda.brandenburg.de.
Because the app does not send your entries to us, we have no access to them and cannot provide information about them.
12. Changes
If the app changes, for example through new features that transmit data, we will update this policy before the change is released.
